After having been away from San Francisco for a few days I came back to a garden of ripening berries. I have learned a few things about berries after having grown them for a few years. One is wait until the berry it fully ripe which means a deep red color on the total berry before you pick it. The other item that I have thought about a lot is that those large berries that you buy in the supermarket are grown that way to save in labor cost. In a green basket with those "Frankenberries" you might get 6-8 BPB (Berries per basket) whereas a basket of my berries ranges in numbers around 20-25 BPB. Smaller berries taste better in my opinion.
Remember to eat organic and get small whenever possible.
